The first week of May officially marks Teacher Appreciation Week, with the Tuesday of that week being Teacher Appreciation Day. We have lots to be thankful for when it comes to our teachers, professors, principals and everyone working in a school setting. So many go above and beyond in providing every student in the U.S. and around the world with the best education possible. Especially in the last year with the COVID-19 pandemic, they all have gone above and beyond to work hard to give all students from preschool to ones going for doctorates with the support and encouragement for completing assignments and projects. We thank you for everything you do, and know we all hold a special place in our hearts.
I’m especially thankful for all of the teachers with which I worked with 20 years. From the first day of preschool to the day I graduated from Worcester State, I’m so blessed to have worked with so many wonderful teachers who gave me the best education and support possible. They all knew about my diagnosis, and did everything possible to accommodate my needs. When the classroom or cafeteria got loud, we consulted with teachers and administration to remove me from the stressful environment to reduce my anxiety. I also was able to take tests in larger classes in quiet environments so I would be able to focus better and not have to worry about sensory overload. Both situations helped eased my nerves, and I’m thankful for my teachers helping me through those moments.
Moreover, I’m very grateful for the help I got from my Worcester State professors and support staff during the last few weeks of my final undergraduate semester when the lockdown happened. They all communicated with me to ensure that I had access to complete the work and receive support for it at any time, and I’m very thankful they made those arrangements for me and my classmates. Even though it was stressful not being in the same face-to-face environment as my professors, they were an email away and made me succeed in my final semester at Worcester.
Every teacher who currently works or has worked deserves a standing ovation for all they’ve done for their students and the schools for which they’ve worked. There is more that goes into the work that teachers do when coming to traditional class or a specials program. They have to prepare their lesson plans, grade tests and projects and ensure that every student is succeeding and in the best learning environment. That goes into the success that teachers give for their students, and is something that should be recognized to show the hard work they do day in and day out to make everyone do the best they can.
There are more than the classroom teachers and professors to recognize and honor during Teacher Appreciation Week. There are the superintendents, principals, special education teachers, physical education teachers, art teachers, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, paraprofessionals and everyone else working in a school environment. I had amazing workers from all of those groups who helped me succeed and made me believe in myself that I can succeed in everything that I do. You all should know that you all are apart of the success of the school at which you work, and you all are amazing in what you do. Thank you for doing everything to support students of all ages.
During this Teacher Appreciation Week 2022, we thank every teacher for the support and success of students worldwide. You all have gone above and beyond to make successful educations for children and adults, so they can succeed and apply the skills they learned into what they do out of the classroom. Thank you for all that you do, and keep going strong.
